NECO Clinical Network

The New England College of Optometry (NECO) Clinical Network is the patient care and clinical education subsidiary of the New England College of Optometry and one of the largest providers of optometric services in Massachusetts. The New England College of Optometry (NECO) Clinical Network encompasses the wide network of local clinical sites throughout which our students do their clinical work. Through the network, our faculty and students provide optometric services to nearly 90,000 patients annually in more than 43 locations, including many of Greater Boston’s community health centers.

As a student, you will have access to one of the most comprehensive optometric clinical systems in the country.  The NECO Clinical Network includes our two comprehensive eye care centers (NECO Center for Eye Care); clinical affiliations with over 40 community health centers, VA Medical centers, hospitals, and pediatric screening programs; and community partnerships  offering pediatric vision screenings at area schools and eye care services to individuals with disabilities, those with low vision/geriatric needs, and homeless programs. The NECO Clinical Network also maintains relationships with private practices, group practices, corporate settings, and multidisciplinary clinics to provide additional opportunities for clinical training.

The NECO Clinical Network was created by design, providing diverse clinical settings to help prepare students to practice efficiently and expertly anywhere in the world when they graduate.  The breadth of clinical settings provides opportunities for students to experience a wide diversity of locations, patients, eye conditions and treatments during their education.

During their first three years, students in the four-year OD program at New England College of Optometry have the opportunity to do clinical work throughout the local sites in the NECO Clinical Network.  Students in International and Accelerated programs work within the network during their first year.  Later clinical placements can be in the local, national and international sites within the NECO Clinical Network.
